"Leave a little sparkle wherever you go"

This week, our kindness Elf, Sparkle returned to our classroom. She reminds us of classroom rules and encourages us to work hard and be kind to our friends and teachers.

We've had lots of fun finding her in the morning and writing letters to her. Letter/card writing is a great way to practice date recognition and writing a detailed message.

Thank you to everybody for contributing to our 360 Kids Drive and Book donations. We collected over 80 items in our classroom.
We incorporated math and students had the chance to sort and count the items.

Our baby nursery has been really popular! Students enjoy reading to the babies, changing diapers and putting them to sleep.

Friendly Reminders/Updates:
1) Next Wednesday is our Kindergarten concert. Please drop your child off by 6:00 p.m. in Room 109. Please have your child wear: white shirt, black pants, mittens and hat.

2) Today your child is coming home with the January homework/classroom calendar. It will be posted on our blog soon. The special helper activity will be sent home early January

3) Winter Challenge Book: Mrs.Partab and I are sending home a winter book for you to complete during the holidays.

*We will be having Festive Friday (dress up in your favourite holiday gear i.e., socks, headbands, sweaters). It is a full day of school!**

Holiday Reading

We will not be sending home any Home Reading books and Library books over the holiday break.

This Friday, we will be returning library books only. Mrs. Denney will be sending home notes for lost library books. The last day we will send home Home Reading books is Friday, December 14th. On Monday, December 17th  we will begin to collect books for the holidays and we will send home books again on Monday, January 7, 2019.

Please continue to find fun ways to engage with your child in reading and writing activities over the break (e.g., find letters and words in signs, read and write/decorate holiday cards, read festive holiday books, practice writing the names of family members, etc.).

Thank you!

Thank you to all of our Year 1 Families for visiting our classroom for observations. We hope you had a great time and learned lots about our program.

In math, we have started learning about 3D solids and 2D shapes. When outside for a walk or around the house, ask your child which 3D solids he/she can find/knows.

Baby Inquiry:
We sent home a note regarding our interest in babies. If you have any items that you are willing to donate for our drama centre, please send them with your child.

Also, please send in a baby picture of your child by Monday if possible.

360 Kids Needs Drive:
Our school are partnered with 360 Kids, a charitable organization that helps homeless youth transition back into the community. This year we will be donating to the 360 hub in Richmond Hill. They offer counselling, essential food and other health care aids and provide avenues for students to continue their education.

This year, the Kindergarten classes are kindly asked to donate single-serve food items. This is different from canned items.
Examples include: Kraft Dinner in a cup
Mr. Noodle
Cereal in a cup
Uncle Ben's Single Serve

Vacation:
If your child will be away during the month of December, please inform the office.
