Hello Spring!

This week, we got a taste of Spring! On Friday, we recognized Earth Hour from 1:00 to 2:00 by turning off the lights and powering down. Earth Hour is celebrated on Saturday from 8:30-9:30 p.m. We are excited to hear how you recognized Earth Hour with your families.

Here is what we have been up to in Room 109:

We've been getting really good at recognizing our sight words. This was a fun game to play.

Over the past few weeks, we have been reading books by Mo Willems such as "Don't Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus." These books are great as they teach students to read with expression and introduce talking and thinking bubbles. We provided our students with blank templates where they had the opportunity to make their own story!

At our science exploration table, we brought seeds! Using the "I see, think and wonder" model, students wrote down and drew their observations, and wonderings.
Here's an example:
P.S: "I see the seed, dirt and soil."
"I think it will be a sunflower."
"I wonder how long it will take."

We have started noticing that birds are returning back to their habitat. After learning about migration, students were excited to paint a bird house and put it on our classroom tree. We are waiting patiently for the birds to arrive.

While outside, we saw buds on the trees! It made us so happy :)

To celebrate Earth Week (coming up in April), the Eco team planted spider plants for each classroom. Each classroom was responsible for painting their pot to commemorate our first year together. We have some future gardeners in our class! :)

In Math, we will begin to learn about addition/subtraction. Every Tuesday and Thursday, we present a photo to our students and have them find the math. It's amazing to see how much math is evident in one picture. This is definitely something you can do at home as well :)
