We have already finished our first month of 2017! It has been a busy one, we are looking forward to seeing what February has in store for us.
Upcoming Events/Important Dates:
February 2: Sweater Day! Wear a sweater to get a point for your colour team and learn the importance of saving energy.
February 3: P.A Day
February 14: Dance-a-thon
February 15: Term 1 Report Cards go home
February 20: Family Day (no school)
Special Helper Sharing: What's in the bag? Students are asked to put one thing in a brown paper bag (don't let anybody see), and to write down 3 clues. We will be guessing what's inside the bag.
Borrow a Book Home Reading Folder: In addition to the library book, students take 1 levelled book home twice a week. Please remember to send the folder on the dates written on the front of the folder. Thank you for your help.
In December, we introduced our S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) table. Students are presented with a task and materials and they use their knowledge in the four subject areas to design and create. This week, we asked our students if they could build a tower using only cards and blocks.
J.N was very determined to build a tower using the materials. |
Students have been signing in on our smart board. The Special Helper helps us write the questions for the next day.
We have been continuing to learn about arctic animals! Students had the opportunity to choose their favourite arctic animal and write their own non-fiction book. We also did our first science experiment for this inquiry; we wanted to see how long we could keep our hands in the cold water for? We are so amazed at how arctic animals can stay warm in the cold weather.
We explored our 5 senses this week. |
D.M was drawing and writing what she saw :) . |
Observational Art: We provided students with watercolour, pencil crayons and pastels to draw the pretty tulips. We hope Winter is near and spring is around the corner ;) |
Last week was our last week learning about 2D Shapes and 3D figures (formally). We will continue to investigate shapes in different areas of our classroom through play. We have started non-standard measurement and will be using the terms: tall, short, long.
We started by measuring our friends and lined them up from shortest to tallest
Some fun things for you to help at home:
- Line up your stuffed animals from shortest to tallest
- Measure how long your foot is (use fruit loops to measure)
Happy Measuring!
