Hour of Code

During the week of  December 4-10, 2017, people from all over the world participate in The Hour of Code to "demystify coding and show that anyone can learn the basics to be maker, creator and an innovator" (code.org)
Here is a video that explains more: https://youtu.be/KsOIlDT145A

Our students took part in various activities inside and outside of the classroom. Ask your child what he/she did to take part in this special activity.

Our students participate in outdoor learning weekly. This week, one group participated in a number bean bag toss. Students had to toss a bean bag onto the number mat, say the number it landed on (we worked on subitizing- recognizing the number without counting) and then cross it off on their sheet. We also installed two new outdoor chalkboards and added two picnic benches in our Kindergarten play area. These chalkboards will support our students in demonstrating their thinking, recording their observations and posting their wonderings.

Inside the classroom, we are exploring patterns. Students have been recognizing patterns in their clothes such as their sweaters, t-shirts, and socks! We've learned that there are many types of patterns such as colour, shape and growing patterns! We are learning to name and label patterns such as a red, blue pattern can be called an AB pattern and learning to extend and create our own patterns!
We call this an AB Pattern!

This is an ABC pattern: blue, grey, white

Please continue to send your child dressed in warm clothes (long-sleeved shirts) along with their snowpants, winter jacket, hat, gloves, and scarf.

See you on Monday!
