Here's what we have been upto in our room this week:
Students have been looking at seeds in their fruit/vegetables closely. Please send in any seeds in a plastic ziploc bag (labelled with what type of seed it is) and send it to school on Tuesday.
Important Information and Reminders:
April Calendar was sent home today with your child. The new special helper activity will start towards the end of the month.
On Tuesday, we will be taking part in World Autism Awareness Day. We are asking everybody to wear something blue on Tuesday in support of understanding and acceptance for people with autism. After lunch (12:50) we will have a short assembly followed by a community walk. Families are welcome to join us.
Also, we will be raising money to purchase resources for the Primary Autism class through a cupcake sale. Please send in $1.00 if you would like your child to purchase a cupcake at morning or lunch recess.
A bookmark will be going home on Tuesday about Overdrive. You can borrow digital books (ebooks) and audio books from our school and read them/listen to them on your computer or iPad at home. Please let us know if you have any questions about the login process.
Reading our daily books: These books are great to practice fluency (how it sounds) by reading it multiple times and for multiple days.
Below are some suggestions on activities or questions that can be asked during and after reading.
-When reading with your child, have him/her find and frame familiar words such as it, is, in.
-Ask comprehension questions after reading. Try to be specific instead of asking general questions such as, what was the book about? Instead you can...
-Ask about the characters (i.e., who tried waking up dad?- For the book, "Wake Up, Dad").
-Ask why they think a character did something in particular (i.e., why did the children want to wake up dad?)
-Have your child draw his/her favourite part and write a simple sentence
